Manatee River Garden Club Flower Show: 3120 First Ave. W., Bradenton

The Manatee River Garden Club will host a "Wild Turkeys Roosting," a Thanksgiving Retrospective, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 16 featuring floral designs, horticulture specimens and special judged exhibits. Siesta Key Crystal Classic Master Sand Sculpting Competition: Siesta Key Beach

The Siesta Key Crystal Classic Master Sand Sculpting Competition will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 16-18 featuring the world's top master sand sculptors who travel to Siesta Beach from all over the world, representing Canada, Czech Republic, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Poland, Germany and the United States. The event features daily sand-sculpting demonstrations, master sand sculptor competitions, quick sand competitions, amateur sand sculpting competitions, vendor village and live music. The Siesta Key Beach Crystal Volleyball competition will be held Nov. 16-17. Tickets: $5, 4-day pass: $10, children ages 4 and younger are admitted free. Four-day VIP parking permits are $49. 15th annual Canine Christmas Festival and "Come, Sit, Stay" Guinness World Record Attempt: Bishop SPCA Animal Shelter, 5718 21st Ave. W., Bradenton

The 15th annual Canine Christmas Festival will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 16 featuring family fun with a canine fashion show, pet portraits with Santa, food trucks, prize drawings, a silent auction, and holiday gifts for pets and people. Sarasota Medieval Fair: Sarasota Fairgrounds, 3000 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota

The Sarasota Medieval Fair features 14th-century entertainment including full-contact jousting, human chess, a childrens' realm, roaming musicians, jugglers and jesters, food and beverages. Mixon Fruit farms will host a Cooking Competition noon-2 p.m. Nov. 16 featuring students from Southeast High School, Suggs Middle School and MTI challenging each other to create the best menu using citrus. The dishes will be judged by local chefs including Greg Campbell of Pier 22, Lan Bradeen of Melange, Valerie Longo of Town Master Magazine and many more. Central Park at Lakewood Ranch will host the Fiesta Italiana 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 16 featuring full line up of entertainment, children's activities, craft vendors, local traditional food and a dog costume contest to benefit the Humane Society of Lakewood Ranch. Performers are opera singer Joe Spinella, the Sarasota Mandolin Orchestra, two magic shows, and the Tarantella Dancers, Italian story telling by Giuseppe. Florida Railroad Museum "Von Kessinger's Express": 12210 83rd St. E., Parrish

The Florida Railroad Museum's "Von Kessinger's Express," departing 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 16 and noon Nov. 17 is an exciting World War II re-enactment on a train ride, taking passengers back to June 1944, traveling from France to Germany while under the watchful eyes of the feared special police in a last ditch effort to escape capture by the Allied troops.
