Keshawna Robinson turned in a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, as the Southeast girls basketball team collected a 63-44 victory over visiting St. Petersburg Gibbs on Thursday.

DeAngela Mathis added 16 points, and Bevin Mays had 13 for the Seminoles (2-0).

The Gladiators (1-2) got 27 points from Bria Bostick.

VENICE 47, MANATEE 40 -- Becca Butler scored 17 points and collected 10 assists and eight rebounds, but the visiting Hurricanes fell to the rival Indians in Venice's season opener.

Jacqui Armer added six points and 10 rebounds for Manatee (0-2).

In the junior varsity game, Venice earned a 41-25 victory. The Hurricanes (0-1) got 11 points from Eldin Simeus and five from Kayla Thiel.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 54, BAYSHORE 42 -- Freshman LaDhazia Williams led the way with 19 points as the host Mustangs defeated the Bruins in their season opener.

Emily Bulfin added 12 points and eight steals, and Kailyn Scully had nine points, six rebounds and four steals.

VALRICO FOUNDATION CHRISTIAN 45, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 41 -- Tory Self led visiting Foundation Christian with 30 pounds in a battle of Panthers.

Bradenton Christian (0-1) got 19 points and 15 rebounds from Katie Swaagman and nine points, six rebounds and four assists from Sophie Giardina.

Boys basketball

SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 71, MANATEE 46 -- The Hurricanes fell to 0-2 in the preseason despite 10 points from Ricquan Roberts at the Cardinal Mooney preseason tournament.

CARDINAL MOONEY 48, BRADEN RIVER 38 -- Tommy Rao and Ryan McMahon poured in 10 points apiece as the Cougars moved to 2-0 in preseason play at the Cardinal Mooney preseason tournament. Zechariah Kendall paced the Pirates (0-2) with 10 points.

Girls soccer

CARDINAL MOONEY 4, SOUTHEAST 0 -- Seminoles goalkeeper Angalique Schweitzer made 16 saves in a losing effort as the visiting Cougars took the victory and handed Southeast (4-1) its first loss.

BRADEN RIVER 2, SARASOTA 1 -- Carly Provan and Abigail Holmes each scored goals for the visiting Pirates. Kendall McNab and Carley Engelberger assisted on the scores. The Pirates improved to 5-0-2 overall and 3-0-2 in district play.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 3, PORT CHARLOTTE 0 -- Sophia Falco netted two goals while her sister Talia Flaco added another for the host Mustangs. Lindsay Martinez, Bri Reda, and Julia Ortiz each had an assist. Goalie Alex Smith and the Mustang defense recorded their sixth shutout of the season to up their record to 5-0-1.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 7, BOOKER 0 -- Emily Malcom scored four goals to lift the host Panthers past the Tornadoes.

Madison Cusack contributed two goals and an assists, Madison Allen had three assists, and Ellie Denison recorded a goal and an assist for BCS (1-0-1). Alex Watson made three saves and got the shutout.

Boys soccer

LAKEWOOD RANCH 1, PORT CHARLOTTE 1 -- Ryan Sollazzo scored for the host Mustangs, who are 2-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the district.
