Southeast's Bell netsseven goals in triumph

Daryl Bell scored all seven of host Southeast's goals as the Seminoles girls soccer team improved to 4-0 on Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over Booker.

Sonia Makki and Emma Bartges had assists, and goalkeepers Hilda Flores, Mallory Robinson and Alex Tolksdorf combined on the shutout.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 2, CLEARWATER CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0 -- Talia Falco scored a goal and had an assist, and Alex Latham recorded her fifth shutout in as many matches as the visiting Mustangs improved to 4-0-1. Hannah Miller scored a goal, and Lindsay Martinez contributed an assist for Lakewood Ranch.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 1, ST. PETE KESWICK 1 -- The Panthers scored the match's first goal when Mackenzie Allen finished off a combination play on passes from Madison Allen and Emily Malcom and settled for a tie on the road in the season opener.

PALMETTO 2, SARASOTA 1 -- Tonya Campos and Marisol Garcia scored the goals as the host Tigers beat the Sailors on Monday.

Boys soccer

PALMETTO 9, SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY 1 -- Usiel Martinez knocked in two goals and assisted on three others as the host Tigers moved to 3-0. Tyler Lawrence had two goals, and Gregorio Calvillo, Javis Paniagua, Eduardo Martinez and David Garza scored for Palmetto. Josh Furman had two assists.

BAYSHORE 2, CARDINAL MOONEY 0 -- Lucca Vecchio and Cole Lamphron booted goals, and the host Bruins (1-1) blanked the Cougars.

Goalkeeper Jose Rosado earned the shutout with six saves.

BRADEN RIVER 3, PORT CHARLOTTE 0 -- Austin Myara scored a goal and added an assist, and Hector Perez and Garret Gomez scored goals as one squad of Pirates beat another. Host Braden River is 2-1.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 4, ST. PETE KESWICK CHRISTIAN 1 --Austin Balais scored three goals, and Jose Moreno had three assists as the visiting Panthers won their season opener. Parker Hogue notched the other goal, and Jongho Kim made seven saves.

Girls basketball

PALMETTO 53, AVON PARK 28 -- Tia Stevens led the way with 16 points, and Jermisha Collins contributed 14 as the visiting Tigers won their season opener. Rilida McDuffie contributed 12 rebounds.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 37, SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY 20 -- Jenna Bloch scored 17 points, and Sierra VanSuch contributed 15 as the host Thunder evened their record at 1-1. Simone Ford-Hars pulled down 12 rebounds for ODA.

Boys basketball

CARDINAL MOONEY 74, MANATEE 63 -- Ryan McMahon carried the Cougars to a preseason victory over the Hurricanes by scoring 22 points and dishing out six assists. Nick Peacock added 12 points. Manatee got 19 points from Ricquan Roberts and 18 from Justin Arcacena. Jon Lubin added 12 points.

Girls weightlifting

MANATEE 56, SOUTHEAST 19 -- The visiting Hurricanes won five of the nine weight classes to claim the season opener.

Manatee winners included Heather Ball (110-pound weight class, 80-pound bench press, 100-pound clean and jerk), Tyreona Williams (154, 95, 75), Jesse Durst (169, 105, 115), Dannah Ventred (183, 110, 125) and Emma Jones (199, 80, 90). The Seminoles got wins from Andrea Jackson (119, 70, 85), Elsa Lopez (120, 75, 75), Nadia Lopez (139, 95, 75) and Carleen Porter (unlimited, 230, 170 clean).
