MANATEE — A gunman pistol-whipped a clerk during the robbery of a Bradenton gas station late Saturday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 10:45 p.m. Saturday, the gunman entered the Sunoco gas station at 4630 Manatee Ave. W. At that time, the clerk was in the store's cooler.

The gunman called the clerk over and directed him to the register. As he was walking to the register the suspect struck him on the back of the head with his pistol. The clerk fell to the ground and was visibly shaking in the security camera video, according to a report.

The suspect then had the clerk open the register and took the money from the drawer. He grabbed the clerk’s phone from the counter and fled west, according to the report.

The suspect was described as standing about 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He was dressed all in black, according to the sheriff's office.
