WHAT: 2013 Farm City Week Schedule

THEME: "Viva Florida - 500 Years Of Agriculture"

Nov. 14: Ag Venture in Mosaic Arena, county fairgrounds, Palmetto. One thousand third graders learn about agriculture through hands-on experience, By invitation only, Information - Diana Smith 941-722-4524.

Nov. 14: Manatee River Soil and Water Conservation District Speech Contest 6 p.m. Information - Gail Somodi at 941-907-0011. Public welcome.

Nov. 16: Beef Prospect Show, open to all Manatee County 4-H and FFA members. Educational programs in the morning. Pre-registration online or call Christa Kirby at 941-722-4524. Public welcome to watch the free show starting at 1 p.m. at Mosaic Arena, county fairgrounds, Palmetto.

Nov. 16: Purebred Rabbit Show in Cook Arena at the Fairgrounds in Palmetto starting at 9 a.m. Information - Michelle Watson at 941-920-7368 or teamosborn@aol.com. Open to Manatee County FFA members and all Florida 4-H members. Public welcome to watch.

Nov. 19: Kiwanis Luncheon, Outstanding Agriculturist Honored (invitation only). Recipient is a current member of the agriculture community who has provided outstanding service to a commodity during their lifetime. Information - Betty Glassburn at 941-776-1296.

Nov. 20: Leadership Manatee Tour (invitation only). Must be enrolled in current Leadership Manatee Class.

Nov. 21: Historical Luncheon, Hall of Fame Inductee will be inducted into the Manatee County Agriculture Hall of Fame. Luncheon is open to the public. Cost $12 per person. For reservations call Sharon at 941-722-4524 or Ann at 941-722-8940. Manatee County Farm City Week Essay winners will be honored at the luncheon.

Nov. 22: Farm Tour, open to the public. Tour includes stops at Manatee Floral, Bell Fish House, lunch at FISH Preserve, Strickland Ranch, and McClure Farm. Reservations -- call Veronica at 941-722-4524. Cost $45 per person which includes bus, lunch and snacks.
