BRADENTON -- A Palmetto man landed in jail after he seriously beat another man during a fight over a girl at a Bradenton convenience store, deputies said Saturday.

The two men were fighting at K & S Discount Food & Beverages, 727 301 Blvd. E., around 3:30 p.m. when the suspect struck the victim with a closed fist several times, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report. The suspect reportedly also threatened to hit the victim with a pipe.

The 25-year-old victim suffered "significant injuries," including a fractured forehead, eye socket and nose, the report states. He fled in a vehicle and went to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, which contacted law enforcement.

Deputies located the suspect, 24-year-old Reliford Cooper, who told them his hand was injured. He was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment, then transported to Manatee County jail, where he was facing a charge of aggravated assault and battery.
