Sarasota Food & Wine Fest set for Saturday

The annual gourmet event at Lakewood Ranch raises money for nonprofits.

If you love good food and fine wine, you'll probably want spend Saturday afternoon at Lakewood Ranch.

The 12th annual Suncoast Food & Wine Fest, one of the area's premiere annual events for gustatory connoisseurs, is slated for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sarasota Polo Club.

The event lets you sample more than 300 American and imported wines, and offers food from dozens of area restaurants. (Actually, the "restaurants" include such places as Starbucks and Publix, and schools such as the Manatee Tech culinary program, in addition to some of the best local and chain eateries.)

If you're not an oenophile, the Suncoast Food & Wine Fest still lets you quench your thirst with craft beers and even soft drinks. There's also live entertainment throughout the afternoon.

The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch sponsors the event and donates the proceeds to dozens of locals non-profits. The Rotary Club has raised more than $1.1 million for the non-profits in the fort 11 years of the festival.

Tickets are $60, which get you all the food and wine you want to sample. Parking's free. There are no tickets sales at the gate so you'll need to get them in advance.
