FHP: Bicyclist seriously hurt in hit-and-run crash in Bradenton

November 6, 2013

MANATEE -- A 30-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver early Wednesday while riding a bicycle on U.S. 41 in Bradenton, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers were looking for the driver of the vehicle that at about struck the woman, possibly a blue, large vehicle such as a SUV or truck, according to a news release. That description was based on debris found at the scene, at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Orlando Avenue.

About 1:40 a.m., the bicyclist and the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle were heading north on U.S. 41 approaching Orlando Avenue, with the bicyclist riding on the shoulder. The motorist failed to maneuver around the bicyclist, striking her and then leaving the scene, according to FHP.

Troopers said the hit-and-run vehicle may be missing the right headlight and right side mirror.

Anyone with information about the crash or the hit-and-run driver and vehicle can call FHP at 239-938-1800.
