Notable

At the Southwest Coast District Open Board Meeting Saturday, Nov. 2, at Bradenton Shuffle Club, several actions were taken:

• The Open Masters and the District Amateur Masters will be played simultaneously at the Palmetto Shuffle Club, all on March 19-22. This is a change from the published schedule.

• Also, SWCD D-11 on Dec. 19 will be 16 frames or 75 points as will D-13 on Jan. 16, at the request of host club Golf Lakes. This change makes effectively all SWCD Draw Doubles 16 Frames or 75 points for 2013-2014 season.

• The popular D-19 at Palmetto M/L, One player minimum a District Amateur is also 16 Frames or 75 points, whichever comes first, so that over half of the Open District Tournaments are now limited to 16 Frames. District Amateurs/Any Doubles remain at 16 Frames or 75 points. Seven Open Tournaments are 75 points.

Note: Florida Tournaments remain 75 point games, except Non-Walking Singles which are 12 Frames or 75 points.

• Most of these changes are in response to shufflers who believe long games cause too much waiting for the next match.

State Delegate Joyce Marquis reported that registration for Florida State Tournaments will be $6 beginning Jan. 2, 2014.

Tournament directors are authorized and encouraged to penalize purposeful stalling, avoiding turning in results of a match, etc.

Dorothy Wagasky of Freedom Village at Sun City Center is chair of a new committee to organize a gathering late in the season of all shufflers, Tournament, league and club players for a time of fellowship and celebration.

Happy shuffling.
