Police: Bradenton man, 71, pistol-whipped, robbed

BRADENTON -- A 71-old man was hospitalized after being pistol-whipped by two robbers, according to Bradenton police.

The man was walking down the sidewalk in the 1200 block of 12th Avenue West in Bradenton when he was approached by two men at 1:39 a.m. Friday, according to a police report.

The suspects brandished a pistol and demanded money, police say. One of the suspects then pistol-whipped the man, knocking him to the ground. The suspects ran away with an unknown amount of money, police said.

Police arrived and set up a perimeter and attempted to track the suspects with K-9 units, however they were not located.

The victim was transported to Blake Medical Center for serious injuries that include a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain, police said.
