Five years ago, she was a housewife from New Jersey. Then she became one of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey."

Now Teresa Giudice is a TV celebrity, purveyor of food and hair products and the author of four cookbooks.

"I'm a New York Times best-selling author," Giudice said. "Excuse me a minute."

During a Halloween phone interview from Giudice's New Jersey home, one of her four young daughters was demanding attention. Something about the evening's trick-or-treating plans.

"I'm still a housewife," she said.

Giudice will be in Palmetto on Saturday when the Sarasota Bradenton Home & Garden Show comes to the Bradenton Area Convention Center.

The home-and-garden show, new to the area, is planned as an annual event. It is scheduled Friday through Sunday.

Your chance to meet Giudice is narrower than that, though. She'll be there noon until 3 p.m. Saturday only.

She'll be signing her four cookbooks and answering questions about Italian food.

"I love meeting my fans," she said. "Everyone's always so nice and so sweet. That's what I really love."

Her books, with such titles as "Fabulicious! Fast and Fit" and "Fabulicious! On the Grill" will be on sale at the show, or fans can bring their own copies to be autographed.

Of course, if you are not there to meet Giudice, there's a lot of other great stuff at the show.

Builders, designers, decorators, retailers, landscapers and just about anyone whose business relates to your home or yard will be on hand. Visitors can window-shop for home-project ideas, buy anything from plants and pavers to lamps and window treatments, or hire people to do repairs and renovations. There are also clinics about various home repair and improvement topics.

The show is produced by a New York Company called East Coast Consumer Shows. Giudice is appearing at several of the company's shows around Florida, including ones in Tampa and Orlando.

Giudice became one of the Real Housewives five years ago through a friend.

"I loved it at first," she said. "The last three seasons were kind of hard because it was my family."

Other housewives from Giudice's extended family joined the joined the cast in the past few years. It wasn't her choice, she said, and she wasn't happy about it.

"It's my job," she said. "It's just not good to work with your family. It's the same for everybody."

Giudice's frustration with being on the show was sometimes obvious, and in one notorious instance, she threw a tantrum in an elegant restaurant and overturned a table.

The next season starts taping in a few weeks, she said, and she has good feelings about this one.

"We have four new people, and going forward I think it's going to be really good," she said. "I'm looking forward to it."

The Sarasota Bradenton Home & Garden Show begins at 10 a.m. all three days and runs until 6 p.m. the first two days and until 5 p.m. Sunday at the Bradenton Area Convention Center, 1 Haben Blvd., Palmetto. Tickets are $7. Call 877-730-7469 or go to sarasotabradentonhomeshow.com
