Congress benefits from taxes yet inequity continues

November 1, 2013

Congressman Vern Buchanan was quoted in the Herald as saying that the average person pays $117,000 over a lifetime into the Medicare system but receives $400,000 back in benefits. Mr. Buchanan does not mention that seniors have already paid their federal, state and local taxes these many years.

Our taxes over these many years helped to pay these same political leaders, who in my opinion are doing a poor job in maintaining the money we paid in.

My Social Security monies are now paying toward welfare recipients, food stamps and medical visits to the ER and for women with many children fathered by many men who fail to help support those babies.

I would ask our political leaders who receive a substantial pension from our taxes just how much they have had to contribute to this outrage.
