Oderus Urungus, Balsac the Jaws of Death, Jizmak Da Gusha, Beefcake the Mighty and Pustulus Maximus are coming to Tampa.
Collectively, they are Gwar, the Antarctica-based (or so they claim) demons of satirical heavy metal. They'll be at the Ritz Theatre in Tampa's Ybor City on Tuesday.
Gwar's known for extreme theatrical stage shows marked by their sci-fi monster costumes and deliberately tasteful lyrics.
Their music has garnered a certain kind of heavy-metal thread, and they've toured with such straight metal bands such as Lamb of God. And when they headline, they attract a certain number of people who are there for the music and may not even get the joke.
Most people, though, are there for the whole package -- the overblown riffs, the truly inventive costumes and effects, and the unique attitude.
Whitechapel, Iron Reagan and A Band of Orcs open.
Details: 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5, The Ritz Theatre, 1503 E. Seventh Ave., Tampa. Tickets: $20 in advance, $23 day of show. Information: 813-247-2555, www.ritzybor.com.
