Rapper Drake comes to Tampa Nov. 6

The hip-hop star's 'Would You Like a Tour' has been tumultuous so far

October 31, 2013

Toronto seems an unnatural birthplace for a superstar rapper, and "Degrassi: The Next Generation" seems an unnatural incubator.

But there few more respected rappers these days than Drake, whose ultra-personal lyrics and a musical style that blends singing and rapping, have made him a hit with fans, critics and most of his fellow rappers.

Drake, who's riding the success of his third studio album "Nothing Was the Same" and his infectious hit "Started at the Bottom" is scheduled to bring his "Would You Like a Tour" to the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Nov. 6. Young R&B star Miguel will open the show.

Tickets holders have reason to be apprehensive though. On Oct. 19, Drake canceled his Philadelphia concert just an hour before show time, citing technical difficulties. And this week, Drake canceled his Nov. 3 show in Raleigh and said he had a scheduling conflict.

This week, the Tampa Bay Times Forum website still said that Atlanta rapper Future will be one of the opening acts. But Drake reportedly fired Future from the tour before it even started. (Future had told the New York Post he wasn't crazy about "Nothing Was the Same.")

But Drake's great, his light show on this tour is supposed to be amazing and Miguel offers strong enough support even without Future on the bill.

Details: 7 p.m. Nov. 6, Tampa Bay Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa. Tickets: $53.70-$115.35. Information: 813-301-2500, www.tampabaytimesforum.com.
