Robinson stops Noles in quarterfinal
Two seasons ago, Tampa Robinson was a postseason neophyte, having broken an eight-year streak of missing out on the regional tournament.
Now, the Knights could be considered playoff veterans.
Robinson, which has won its district three years in a row to advance to the postseason, made it all the way to the region finals last season before bowing out to perennial power Merritt Island.
This year, the Knights feel they can go even deeper.
They took the first step, dispatching Southeast 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 in a Class 5A-Region 3 quarterfinal matchup. The Knights will host Bayshore at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in a region semifinal.
Robinson (12-13) utilized a strong serving game to sweep the Seminoles (6-18). Six different players recorded an ace for the Knights, and the team had 19 overall. Leading the way was sophomore Catia Sleet with seven aces, including four in the span of six points during an 11-point Robinson run that put Game 2 out of reach.
Southeast got 12 kills and six digs from Emma Bartges and 21 digs Rischamily Robles. Lacey Sanchez added 12 assists, 14 digs and two aces. Marline Valcin contributed three kills.
CLEARWATER CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, CARDINAL MOONEY 0 -- The Cougars fell in a Class 3A-Region 3 quarterfinal by scores of 25-6, 25-10, 25-18.
Cardinal Mooney finishes its season at 12-11. Clearwater Central Catholic will host Out-of-Door Academy at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in a region semifinal.
