MANATEE -- A dispute in Bradenton recently escalated to the point where a 29-year-old man ran at another man with two knives, according to Bradenton police.

The incident occurred at 5:18 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of 20th Street East, according to a report.

Christopher Shute was yelling at his girlfriend about not paying the power bill, the report states.

The report does not describe Shute's connection with the victim.

Whatever their relationship, the victim told police that Shute became angry, began to yell, picked up a chair to threaten the victim then set the chair down and pushed the victim.

The victim said he tried to calm Shute down because there was a child in the house, according to police.

The victim said that Shute responded by running into the kitchen, grabbing two knives off the counter and running at the victim, police said.

Shute "chest-bumped" the victim and swung both knives down at him, missing only because the victim took a step backward, according to the report.

The victim immediately called the police, the report states.

Shute was being held with bond at the Manatee County jail on aggravated assault charges according to the jail website.
