PALMETTO -- A 22-year-old Palmetto woman was charged with shoplifting, but when she reportedly tried to bite a Palmetto Police Department officer her charges became more serious.
Tierra Nichole Salter of the 300 block of 14th Street West, Palmetto, was arrested at 11:40 a.m. Saturday and was in the Manatee County jail Monday on bonds totaling $3,120. She is charged with shoplifting and battery on a law enforcement officer, according to the jail website.
A Walmart security officer reported to police that he saw Salter taking price tags off children's clothing in the clearance rack and placing them on children's clothing that was not on clearance at the store at 508 10th St. W., Palmetto.
The officer then said Salter walked through the self check-out lane, scanned the items, paid the reduced price and walked out, a Palmetto Police Department report states.
The officer showed up while Salter and two members of Walmart security were in the Walmart parking lot.
When the officer tried to arrest Salter, she allegedly put her mouth on his right arm, in an attempt to bite him, the report states.
"I felt her teeth on my skin and, in one motion pulled my arm away and put her in a headlock," the officer wrote in his report.
Salter told the officer, "I will find a way to kill you."
While trying to handcuff her, Salter again tried to bite the officer's arm, the report states.
Salter was finally handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.
