Affordable Care Act gives hope to many Americans

October 26, 2013

There is a lot of misinformation concerning the Affordable Care Act. People think ACA is different than Obamacare. They are the same!

As we all know, the Affordable Care Act is the law of the land at this time, and Obama was voted in as our president knowing full well that health care for all was on his agenda.

Did you know that our state legislators pay $8.34 a month for their health care? Did you know that the Chamber of Commerce (not Manatee County), the drug and medical device companies, insurance companies, the Koch brothers, the Tea Party, and others are behind the destruction of affordable health care?

Here are some ACA provisions for Americans.

• 250,000 young adults under the age of 26 are on their parent's health care insurance.

• 1 million children and 8 million adults with pre-existing conditions will be covered under the ACA.

• Babies with health issues can now get insurance.

• $54 million has been returned to 600,000 Floridians from health insurance companies because ACA requires insurance companies to spend 80-85 percent of the premiums they receive on health care. If anything more than 15-20 percent is spent on administrative costs, it must be returned to their clients -- at least 80 percent is spent on patients and 20 percent to administer "our" health dollars.

• Some health care premiums are the lowest in decades.

• Over the last three years, in Florida, prescription drug costs have been reduced by $460 million.

• We are one of the richest countries in the world and yet we are 78th in the world due to lack of medical care for our citizens.
