BRADENTON -- A 49-year-old Bradenton man was charged with child abuse after he tried to take the law into his own hands to solve a bullying problem, according to Bradenton police.

Dwayne E. Johnson went up to a 12-year-old boy and told him to stop picking on his grandson at school.

The incident occurred at 8:45 a.m. Thursday on an unidentified street in Bradenton, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.

The 12-year-old victim told a Bradenton police officer that Johnson also punched him in the chest and the arm with his fist, according to the report.

The victim did not have any bruising on his body due to the incident and refused medical treatment, according to the report.

The victim was clearly upset and was crying, the report adds.

Johnson denied a physical altercation took place.

Johnson was being held without bond in the Manatee County jail, according to the sheriff's office website.
