— A motorcyclist died in a crash with a car Friday morning in Bradenton, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Jonathan C. Frye, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP Sgt. Herbert Head.

The crash, on Cortez Road at Palma Sola Boulevard, happened at 7:49 a.m. Friday, according to the FHP crash report.

Deven Desai, owner of Palma Sola Discount Beverage, was inside assisting customers when the crash happened.

“I heard the crash and I called 911,” Desai said.

Within moments, Desai said there were witnesses gathered around the scene and an ambulance had arrived.

Frye was heading west and the other driver, an 89-year-old Bradenton man, was heading east and turning onto Palma Sola Boulevard when the two collided.

“I never saw the man, I don’t even know what happen,” the driver said. He was able to drive his car, with damage to the right side and back right wheel, into the parking lot of Palma Sola Discount Beverage.

Investigators were still interviewing witnesses when the roadway was finally cleared shortly before 10 a.m.

“We have three or four witnesses that we are interviewing to try and determine what color the lights were,” Head said. “Initially, it doesn’t appear to be speed.”

The westbound lanes of Cortez Road are blocked, according to FHP.
