The Southeast High girls cross country team and boys runner Dominic MacRae raced to championships Thursday at the Class 2A-District 11 meet at Premier Sports Complex in Lakewood Ranch.
Southeast, which hosted the event, claimed the girls team title with 38 points, 13 fewer than second-place Wauchula Hardee. Elsa Lopez finished secondin 22:23.84. Hardee's Maria Munoz won the race in 22:15.08.
The top three teams and 15 individuals advanced to the Region 3 meet on Nov. 2 at Holiday Anclote.
Southeast also got a sixth-place finish from Nadia Lopez (23:31.78), a seventh-place finish from Sabrina Watson (24:16.43) and a 10th-place finish from Emily Marhold (24:32.96). Isabel Panganiban (24:48.90) came in 13th.
MacRae won the individual crown in the boys race, finishing in 17 minutes, 59.37 seconds. He and teammate Andrew Wolfson, who finished 12th in 19:53.52, advanced to the region meet.
The Southeast boys team finished tied for fourth, just out of a qualifying spot. Hardee won the boys event with 40 points. Arcadia DeSoto and St. Petersburg Lakewood also advanced.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3, CARDINAL MOONEY 1 -- The host Thunder won 25-20, 22-25, 25-12, 25-11 behind nine kills and 11 perfect passes from Natalie Buffett to win the Class 3A-District 10 championship over the Cougars.
ODA will meet Clearwater Calvary Christian in the Region 3 quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Oct. 29. Cardinal Mooney will travel to Clearwater Central Catholic for another region quarterfinal.
Lauren Maxey had eight kills and 10 digs for the Thunder (14-5). Cameron Graham added 20 digs, 15 perfect passes and three aces.
