Pellet shot, punch triggers Manatee County arrest

October 24, 2013

MANATEE — A 21-year-old Manatee County man has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief after authorities say he shot a black metal pellet gun at his neighbor’s family then punched a hole in their fence.

The incidents occurred at 4:52 p.m. Tuesday in the 3500 block of 49th Avenue East, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Eric Channing, who lives in the house behind the victim’s, was reportedly on his roof pointing the weapon. The victim told authorities he became scared when he saw Channing, grabbed his children and went into his home.

He said Channing came off the roof and punched a foot-long hole in his fence, causing an estimated $200 damage. The victim also reported Channing shot at his family five times and threatened them.

A deputy reported cuts on Channing’s knuckles could have come from punching the fence.

Channing remained in the Manatee County jail Thursday subject to a $50,120 bond, according to the sheriff’s office website.
