TV dance show comes to Sarasota stage

'SYTYCD' sells out Van Wezel

October 24, 2013

It's hard to imagine that even the people who came up with the idea for "So You Think You Can Dance" though it would be such a massive hit.

The TV dance competition has now been on the air for a decade and has spawned periodic national tours that regularly sell out.

We're right in the middle of this year's tour, which started Oct. 1 and comes to Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota on Oct. 27.

The Van Wezel website says no tickets are available, so you might have to scrounge one from a friend. It's also possible that some tickets are being held by the hall or the promoter and will be available later, so you might want to keep checking the site.

The season 10 tour line-up includes Aaron Turner, Amy Yakima, "Fik-Shun," Hayley Erbert, Jasmine Harper, Jenna Johnson, Makenzie Dustman, Nico Greetham, Paul Karmiryan and Tucker Knox.

Besides being popular with fans, and being credited by some people with helping to spike renewed interest in dance, "So You Think You Can Dance" recently received seven 2013 Primetime Emmy Award nominations including Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.

Details: 7 p.m. Oct. 27, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: Sold out. Information: 941-953-3368, www.vanwezel.org.
