She's a cute, young-adult former Disney sitcom star and current pop singer who has sold bazillions of albums, and she's trying to break away from her kiddie-star image.
But unlike someone else who fits that description, Selena Gomez didn't humiliate herself at the recent MTV Video Music Awards.
In fact, she debuted her new single, "Come & Get It," at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this year, and her fans loved it. Her first solo album, "Stars Dance," came out in July, the day after her 21st birthday. (She previously had several albums credited to Selena Gomez & the Scene.)
Along the way, she's been taking on some more grown-up acting roles, including the locally filmed "Spring Breakers."
She'll be in Tampa the day before Halloween, performing in concert at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
Her publicity material quotes her as saying that her music has grown and that this current tour -- dubbed the "Stars Dance World Tour 2013" -- will show her fans "a new side of me."
But it's probably a good bet that, besides featuring songs from "Stars Dance," she'll be performing some of "old" stuff, too. It's only been four years since her recording debut, the gold album "Kiss & Tell" that included the platinum single "Naturally."
