The long-awaited first real cold front of the fall is about to arrive.
Light rain showers dotted the Tampa Bay area early Wednesday, advancing the arrival of drier, cooler air later in the day.
According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez, once the cold front moves through this morning, the showers will end and it will become breezy across the area.
"By the afternoon, the rain will be gone and cooler and drier air will settle into the Bay area," Marquez said. "The drier air is working its way southward, and by tonight the cooler conditions will be here and stay for the next few days."
Temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s Wednesday afternoon will drop into the 50s and 60s by Thursday morning with some of the coolest temperatures in the northern parts of the Bay area. Morning temperatures could dip into the upper 40s in the northern counties. Conditions are expected to be mostly sunny for the next several days with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
