Christ Church Music Series to feature pemier harpsichordist

Harpsichordist Julane Rodgers will perform J.S. Bach's "Goldberg Variations" to open the music season on Nov. 1.

BRADENTON -- The Music Series at Christ Church, will present the first concert in its 2013-2014 season at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at 4030 Manatee Ave. W.

Harpsichordist Julane Rodgers will perform J. S. Bach's "Goldberg Variations," one of the greatest masterpieces of Baroque keyboard music.

The program is free and open to the public. Freewill offering will be taken.

Rodgers was awarded an NDEA Graduate Fellowship at the University of Oregon, where she earned a doctorate in musical arts in harpsichord. She was harpsichordist with the Dayton (Ohio) Bach Society and continues to perform as harpsichordist for the Dayton Philharmonic, in addition to her Florida performances.

She participated in a harpsichord showcase at the Boston Early Music Festival and played a program at the Smithsonian Institution in which she demonstrated some of its famed collection of historic instruments.

At the AGO Convention in Sarasota she gave a harpsichord workshop and last spring played for Friends of the Artist Series and at the Southeastern Historic Keyboard Society Conclave in Macon, Ga.

Other events in the Music Series at Christ Church include organ recitals, choral music, and a handbell choir concert. Richard Benedum is organist and choir director at Christ Church.
