BRADENTON -- James Patterson, the best-selling author most widely known for his Alex Cross series, is coming to Bradenton.

He'll autograph books from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30, at Inches Fitness, 4702 Cortez Road, Bradenton.

A women's fitness center is an unusual place for a book signing, but Inches is owned by Maryellen Patterson, the author's sister.

Patterson's Alex Cross books and other mystery thrillers have kept him on best-seller lists, and his work known even to people who don't read the novels.

A couple of titles from the Cross series, "Kiss the Girls" and "Along Came a Spider," have been adapted into popular movies.

His books have been a hit with the public for 46 years.

His first novel, "The Thomas Berryman Number," won the Edgar Award for mystery fiction in 1977.

He's been almost as successful with fiction for young people. His "Middle School," "Maximum Ride," "Daniel X" and "Witch & Wizard" series have spent a total of more than 230 weeks on national best-seller lists, and all four series are in development for motion pictures.

Patterson's website,, is designed to give adults an easy way to locate the best books for youngsters.
