Manatee's Joe Kinnan is making a run toward winning the Region 3 title in USA Today’s contest for America’s best high school football coach.

As of Wednesday morning, Kinnan has garnered 36.4 percent of the votes, second to Marcus Boyles of Petal, Miss., who has 37.3 percent.

Kinnan reached the regional round after he was voted the best coach in Florida last week.

To vote for Kinnan in the regional round, head to and click the “vote now” button. Choose Region 3 on the following page.

Voting for the regional winner ends noon Friday.

Regional winners advance to the national round, and the coach voted the best in the country will receive $2,000 toward his school’s athletic department. There will also be cash prizes awarded to coaches who finish second through fifth.
