BRADENTON -- Jess Jewelers, formerly located in the Financial Center, is set to host a grand opening at its new location at 1312 Sixth Ave. W. in the Kirk Welsh Building.
The grand opening will take place Oct. 25 in the historic building purchased and renovated by owner Tom Jess who opened Jess Jewelers' first location on Cortez Road in 1989.
Jess Jewelers occupies 3,000 square feet of the building with two additional storefronts available for lease. The store has been redone, with accents on natural light, energy efficiency and attention to comfort for the shopper.
A ribbon cutting will take place at 4 p.m,, followed by music, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres catered by SOMA on the Creek, a trunk show by a well-known Manhattan jewelry designer, and three shopping sprees to be given away.
Jess describes the upcoming grand opening as a major celebration for more than Jess Jewelers.
"Jess Jewelers is committed to our community, our customers and the future," he said. "A portion of all our sales, from Oct. 25 through Oct. 31, will be donated to Realize Bradenton."
Linen Locker to offer services in major markets
LAKEWOOD RANCH -- A local company is bringing an innovative laundry service concept to Florida.
Linen Locker, 6243 Lake Osprey Drive, will distribute laundry locker services throughout Florida's major markets, starting with Lakewood Ranch.
The Linen Locker allows customers to place their bags of dirty laundry, alterations, comforters or dry cleaning in a password-secured locker, place a service order via a customized online app, and then pick up from the locker once the wash and fold or dry cleaning service is complete.
"The dry cleaning business is normally a 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. business, closed on Sundays and short hours on Saturdays," said owner and company President, Cheryl Walstad. "The Linen Locker allows busy executives and customers to drop off and pickup their dry cleaning on their schedule, at their convenience, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."
A completely self-service business, The Linen Locker uses a custom-built technology that gives customers the ability to track every garment. All-Star Laundry & Dry Cleaning, also owned by Walstad, will provide the service. All-Star is a state-of-the-art cleaner with locations in Lakewood Ranch and on Bee Ridge Road.

Chamber recognized for green work
Sustainable Florida has chosen the Manatee Chamber of Commerce as a finalist for its 2013 Sustainable Florida Best Practice Awards in the Non-Profit category.
The winners will be announced on October 30, 2013 at the Working on the Green Sustainability Summit in Orlando.
The Manatee Chamber's "Sustainable Manatee: Green Business" certification program, which was nominated as a Best Practice, gives special recognition to businesses and organizations making concerted, deliberate efforts to implement sustainable business practices. To-date, 17 business have been certified through the Manatee Chamber's program. All have completed a rigorous review and documentation of their business practices in the areas of recycling, energy conservation, water conservation, commodity conservation and innovative concepts.
