The Saint Stephen's girls golf team entered Monday's Class 1A-District 17 knowing it would advance to next week's region.

Three teams can advance, and only two competed at Tatum Ridge.

But that didn't stop the Falcons from lighting up the course. Natalie Pleyerova shot an even-par 72 to lead Saint Stephen's to a team score of 301, 70 shots better than Cardinal Mooney, which also advanced. Vanessa Yan shot a 75, Michelle Yan had a 76, and Phoebe Zhao carded a 78.

Stephanie See led the Cougars with a 79.

The teams will play in the Region 6 tournament on Oct. 21 at Golden Gate Country Club in Naples.

CLASS 2A-DISTRICT 19 -- Palmetto golfers Matt Pletcher and Jessica McMillan each shot 84 and won district championships at The Bluff's in Zolfo Springs.

The Tigers finished second in the boys and girls team standings and advanced to the Region 7 tournament on Oct. 21 at Port Charlotte Golf Club.

Josh Whitson had an 89, Chase Bafia shot a 95, and Cameron Creque had a 96 for the Palmetto boys, who shot a team score of 364. Sarasota Military Academy won with a 355.

Southeast came in third in the girls standings and advanced.

Volleyball

RIVERVIEW 3, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 0 -- The Thunder suffered a road loss 25-14, 25-12, 25-20 to fall to 12-3.

Natalie Buffett led the way for ODA with 10 kills and 22 perfect passes. Lauren Maxed contibuted nine kills and nine digs. Monica Costa had 24 assists and two aces.

The Thunder won the junior varsity match 25-7, 25-15.
