Deputies: Armed man tries to rob group outside Bradenton bar

October 12, 2013

— An armed man tried to rob a group of people as they left a Bradenton bar early Saturday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The victim and witnesses were getting into their vehicle around 2:40 a.m. at LaJula bar, 5645 15th St. E. when Princeo Altidor, 24, allegedly got into the passenger side backseat armed with a silver .22 caliber revolver in his left hand, according to the sheriff's report.

One witness saw Altidor reach for a Wells Fargo bank bag that was on the back dashboard, authorities said. The woman started screaming and alerted her brother-in-law, who went after Altidor as he was trying to walk away.

Three sheriff's deputies who were already responding to an unrelated call at the bar arrived and saw an altercation between Altidor and the brother-in-law. As they tried to separate the two men, one of the witnesses was screaming, "he's got our stuff," deputies said.

Altidor was not being compliant and was secured as deputies tried to determine what crime had occurred. During that time, a silver .22 revolver fell from his pocket, they said. A further search revealed a .357 Magnum Taurus revolver in his front pocket and 5.5 grams of hydrocodone, 12 grams of prescription Motrin and 1.1 grams of crack cocaine on his person, according to the report.

Altidor faces charges of armed burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed trafficking, possession of a legend drug and possession of a controlled substance.

He was being held in Manatee County jail Saturday on bonds totaling $29,120, according to the sheriff's website.
