Falcons rack up 609 total yards in rout

Luc Goeders rushed for a school-record 363 yards on 31 carries and scored four touchdowns Friday night as the Saint Stephen's football team collected a 52-20 victory at Fort Myers Canterbury.

The Falcons (3-4) gained 609 total yards, 553 on the ground. Michael Burch scored a pair of touchdowns, and Zack Kanter added another. Bobby Harrison had an interception.

CARDINAL MOONEY 14, ST. PETERSBURG CATHOLIC 12 -- Sean Morris intercepted a Hail Mary pass on the game's final play as the visiting Cougars improved to 4-1.

Cardinal Mooney blocked a field goal that could have given the Barons (3-3) the lead with about seven minutes to play.

DeMardre Patterson gained 74 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown for the Cougars. Quarterback Reese Vita was 10-of-11 passing, and it was his touchdown strike to Austin Leach that allowed Cardinal Mooney to erase a 12-7 halftime deficit.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF NAPLES 49, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 0 -- The Thunder suffered a homecoming defeat and saw their record fall to 1-5.

Boys golf

COUNTY MEET -- Lakewood Ranch won its sixth straight title at the Manatee County Championship, this one by 38 strokes, and Bradenton Christian's Philip Knowles won the individual crown at the Links at Greenfield Plantation.

Knowles shot a 66, one shot better than Lakewood Ranch's Ramsey Touchberry. The Mustangs shot a team total of 274. The 14-under-par total was the team's best of the sesaon and a county meet record. Second-place BCS shot a 312.

Danny Walker and Luke Miller added 68s for Lakewood Ranch, the two-time defending state champion in Class 2A.

Landry Miller shot a 71 for BCS. Braden River, which finished third with a team total of 327 got a 75 from Max Everett and a 79 from Andrew Hammett.

Manatee was fourth at 348, Saint Stephen's was fifth at 372, Palmetto was sixth at 402, and Bayshore was seventh at 507.

Swimming

COUNTY MEET -- Lakewood Ranch swimmers Danny Erlenmeyer, Luke Hanner and Sydney Panzarino each won two individual events Thursday as the Mustangs swept the Manatee County Championships at G.T. Bray park.

The Lakewood Ranch boys scored 302 points. Braden River was second at 253, Southeast came in third at 180 and Bayshore was fourth at 164.

Erlenmeyer won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 48.34 seconds, and the 500 freestyle in 4:45.12. Hanner took the 200 individual medley in 2:03.58 and the 100 butterfly in 54.44.

The Lakewood Ranch girls scored 307 points, 59 more than second-place Saint Stephen's. Braden River was third at 238 points.

Panzarino won the 100 freestyle in 55.9 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:03.34.
