Ranch boysgolfers wintournament
Danny Walker carded a 4-under-par 67 to lead the Lakewood Ranch boys golf team to the Renaissance Vinoy Tournament championship on Thursday at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg.
Walker won the individual title, and the Mustangs (117-5) finished with an even-par team total of 284, seven shots better than second-place Lithia Newsome. Twenty Tampa Bay-area teams competed in the tournament.
Lakewood Ranch's Kelly Sun shot a 69 and finished fourth overall, and Luke Miller and Ramsey Touchberry shot 74s.
The Mustangs will be prohibitive favorites to win their sixth straight Manatee County title on Friday at the Links of Greenfield Plantation.
BOOKER 240, PALMETTO 245 -- Jonathan Bozer's 47 led the way as the visiting Tornadoes improved to 2-5 with a victory at Imperial Lakewoods.
Dalton Bloch shot a 59 for the Tigers (4-8).
PALMETTO 3, BRADEN RIVER 0 -- Setter Whitley Canezo dished out 12 assists and added eight service points, while teammate Sarah Diaz was tough defensively (seven digs) to help the Tigers (4-14) sweep the host Pirates 25-18, 25-19, 25-18.
LAKEWOOD RANCH 3, NORTH PORT 1 -- The host Mustangs clinched the top seed for the Class 7A-District 10 tournament by knocking off the Bobcats 25-9, 25-19, 25-17 on Senior Night.
Seniors Ashlyn Falahee and Lauren Owens had 13 and 11 kills, respectively, for Lakewood Ranch (19-4, 7-1). Classmate Ali Milbourn had 31 assists, and senior Savannah Sears had 13 digs and six kills.
SAINT STEPHEN'S 3, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 1 -- The Falcons ruined the Panthers' Senior Night with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-27, 25-22 victory in Class 3A-District 10 play.
Abbie James led the way for BCS (8-11, 2-6) with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Alexis Ferrer had nine digs and Alex Watson had eight kills. Lea Sifrit contributed two kills. All four players are seniors.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3, BOOKER 0 -- Lauren Maxey led the host Thunder with seven kills, nine digs and a pair of aces in a 25-15, 25-12, 25-8 triumph.
Monica Costa pitched in with 24 assists, six aces and three kills for ODA (12-2). Reanna Gregory had six kills, and Taylor Albano and Cameron Graham each had four aces.
The Thunder also claimed a 25-16, 25-10 victory in the junior varsity match.
