Sarasota sheriff's office gets warrant for shooting suspect

October 7, 2013

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant for a man investigators say fired a gunshot in his home during an argument with his girlfriend.

Detectives are seeking Jerry Williams, 25, of the 2500 block of Euclid Avenue in Sarasota, who has a violent history, after he evaded deputies Saturday night.

"A deputy in the area at the time of the incident heard gunshots and saw Williams drive away from the home. The deputy attempted a pit maneuver and Williams tried to drive through a culvert to avoid being stopped but got stuck and ran from the vehicle. The deputy pursued him but lost sight of Williams, who could not be located during a search," a report states.

"Witnesses say Williams pulled out a gun during an argument with his girlfriend, grabbed her by the hair and threatened to shoot her. Some of the victim’s relatives who had arrived at the home say Williams fired at least one round inside the residence and then walked outside and fired several more times at them. No one was injured." the sheriff's office said.

Williams has a violent criminal history, and should be considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff's office said.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts can call the sheriff's at 941-861-4900 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers, 941.366.TIPS (8477) or online, www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com.
