Weather alert: Showers, storms likely on Monday in Bradenton

MANATEE -- Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue Monday in Bradenton as a cold front approaches the Tampa Bay region, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are calling for mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 88 and southerly winds of 7 to 16 mph -- including gusts as high as 23 mph. The chance of rain is 50 percent.

The expected low Monday night is 73. The chance of rain will be 20 percent.

The National Weather Service said a band of showers and thunderstorms will move across west-central Florida and southwest Florida ahead of an approaching cold front. The stronger storms "will be capable of producing very heavy rain, wind gusts to 40 mph and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning," the Weather Service said.

There also will be an increased risk of rip currents off local beaches, according to the Weather Service.
