Masked gunman robs 7-Eleven store in East Manatee

MANATEE -- A masked gunman early Monday robbed a 7-Eleven store in East Manatee, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:41 a.m., the robber walked into the store at 5914 53rd Ave. E., at the intersection with Caruso Road, and demanded the clerk hand over cash and cigarettes. After the clerk complied, he ran away towards the east, according to a news release.

Deputies searched the area but did not find anything, according to the sheriff's office.

The man was described as being in his 20s and standing about 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 6 inches tall. His face was covered with a blue bandana.

He was wearing a black, long-sleeved sweatshirt, gray pants and a gray ball cap. He was armed with a semiautomatic handgun, according to the sheriff's office.
