Car theft child abduction ends safely in Manatee

October 6, 2013

MANATEE — A child was found unharmed after the car he was riding in was stolen Saturday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:47 p.m., a woman was leaving a party in the 3200 block of Eighth Street East and loaded her 5-year-old child into her car before she walked away for a moment to get something, according to a report.

When the woman came back her vehicle was gone with her child inside, according to the report.

Sheriff’s office vehicles arrived and a “be on the lookout” report went out describing the vehicle and suspect.

At 2 a.m. Sunday, deputies canvassing the area were flagged down by citizens giving the location of the suspect.

Roberto Guerriero, 29, was detained and the vehicle was located shortly after with the child inside unharmed, the report states.

Guerriero was arrested and taken to the Manatee County jail. Guerriero’s photograph, charges and possible bail weren’t immediately available on the sheriff’s office website.
