Downtown Bradenton Farmers Market: Old Main Street (12th Street West), Bradenton

Downtown Bradenton Farmers Market, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays, includes dozens of vendors offering locally grown fruits, vegetables, plants and prepared foods. Sam Woolf, the young local singer and guitarist who will appear as a contestant on "American Idol" in January, will perform. David Shiplett, chef-owner of SOMA Creek Side. will do a food demonstration from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Also featured is Manatee County Central Library's fourth annual Mana-Con Comics Convention, featuring local comic shop booths, art workshops and a student art show. Village of the Arts Artwalks: The Village of the Arts, 12th St. W. and Ninth Ave., Bradenton, will have First Friday Artwalks 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 5. Tie One On is the them as the Village celebrates the start of the season. Get those old ties out of the back of your closet and "Tie One On" to your favorite fence in the Village or choose one of ours from tie tables throughout the Village provided by the Manatee Memorial Auxiliary Thrift Shop in Bradenton. Ties on fences will be on display until the following weekend when all ties will be donated back to the Thrift Shop. Florida Maritime Museum grand reopening: 4415 119th St. W., Cortez

The Florida Maritime Museum will hold its grand reopening 1-4 p.m. Oct. 5. The event features light refreshments, live music and kids' activities all day. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. Hours: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Information: 941-908-6121.

Dakin Dairy Farm Festival: Dakin Dairy Farms, 30771 Betts Road, Myakka City

Registration is now open for Dakin Dairy Farm's Mac and Cheese Contest and 5-Mile Ranch and Kids Run which will be part of Dakin Dairy Farm Festival 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 5 celebrating five years of farm tours, birthday parties and corn maze. There will be a calf scramble, a bean bag toss, Himalayan salt demonstrations, local artists, various "agri" vendors and exhibits, and live music by Kim Betts and the Gamble Creek Band. Bluegrass Florida Cracker Festival: Historic Bridge Street , Bradenton Beach

The Bridge Street Merchants are hosting a Bluegrass Florida Cracker Festival 5-10 p.m. Oct. 5. The free event features smoked mullet, barbecue, a full bar with beer, wine, and liquor, dancing, hula hooping, life-size Jenga and more. Community Yard Sale: Palmetto Historical Park, 515 10th Ave. W., Palmetto

The Palmetto Historical Commission is hosting a community yard sale, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 5 in Palmetto Historical Park. More than 30 tables will be set up selling treasures and bargains of all kinds. Word of Mouth BBQ will be on site selling sandwiches and hot dogs. Alex's Lemonade Stand will be raising funds to help fight childhood cancer. The park buildings including the Agricultural Museum will be open for free self-guided tours. During the yard sale, Palma Sola Appraisals & Sales will be offering appraisals for just $5 per item. A Florida Produce Crate Label Swap Meet is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 5. Many Florida labels will be on display and available for trading and sale by some of the major collectors in the state. If you have labels or citrus related items, bring them to the swap as collectors will be purchasing as well as giving estimates.
