Laptop disappears after woman leaves it in Manatee Starbucks

HERALD STAFF REPORTOctober 4, 2013

MANATEE -- In today's digital world, losing a laptop computer or a cell phone ranks just behind loss of a wallet or purse.

Through the narrative of a Manatee County Sheriff's Office crime report, one can almost feel the pain and anguish of a Sarasota woman who left her laptop computer in the bathroom at the Starbucks at 5485 University Parkway at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The woman told deputies that she went to the bathroom with her laptop with her, obviously wanting to keep it safe. While in the restroom, she set her laptop down.

When she left the restroom, she forgot her laptop and left the Starbucks, the report states.

About 30 minutes later, after being unable to reach the store by phone, the woman drove back to the Starbucks and began to search for the computer. She could not find it, the report states.

The victim spoke to the Starbucks' employees, and they told her no one had turned the computer in or reported a laptop in the women's restroom.

The laptop is valued at $1,000 and was inside a red and white case, the report concludes.

Anyone who found the laptop is asked to call 941-747-3011.
