BPD names Palmer Officer of October
BRADENTON -- Master Patrol Officer Matthew Palmer of the Bradenton Police Department has been named Officer of the Month for October after he was nominated by Lt. James Racky
At 8 p.m. Sept. 12, Palmer responded to an overturned vehicle accident in the 300 block of Ninth Street West. Ayoung female driver was panic-stricken being trapped in the vehicle.
The Manatee County EMS determined the driver had a possible spinal cord injury, so a responder needed to apply a "C-Spine" medical technique while paramedics could gather additional equipment to treat the patient. Palmer volunteered to assist the patientby positioning his hands to brace the driver's neck so no further injury would occur.
Palmer continued to calm the driver while shielding her from glass and metaldebris during extrication.
"Words cannot describe how impressed I was with MPO Palmer's actions and the selflessness while administering first aid and his concern for the driver's safety," Racky said. "It is with these actions, that I feel MPO Palmer went above and beyond his call of duty."
