Manatee deputy shoots suspect with stun gun

MANATEE -- A man wanted out of Hillsborough County on a charge of violating probation was taken into custody after Manatee deputies shot him with a stun gun, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:45 a.m., a deputy responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 4500 block of 19th Street Circle West.

Upon making contact with the man, identified as Jordan Alvarez, 21, the deputy learned he was wanted in Hillsborough County, according to a news release.

"While gaining control over Alvarez, he fled from a deputies," the report states.

The deputy deployed his stun gun and one dart struck Alvarez in the right shoulder. Alvarez removed the dart and continued to run, the report states.

Deputies charged across Cortez Road, and he was eventually arrested near the Lowes store at Cortez Road and 14th Street West.

Alvarez was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital after he complained of back pain.
