Prep swimming | Saint Stephen's girls shine at state meet

STUART -- Four member of the Saint Stephen's swim team took part in the FSPA Invitational Swim Meet on Saturday that included 775 swimmers from 51 schools in the state who qualified and competed in the meet.

The four girls, all juniors, are Ellie Berdusco, Kristen Brockett, Kristi Schleicher and Lauri Schleicher. Berdusco placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and second in the 500-yard freestyle. Lauri Schleicher entered the meet seeded 35th in the 50-yard freestyle and ended up placing 16th.

The four swimmers placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, breaking a school record both in the morning preliminaries and in the evening finals with a time of 1:41.72. Ellie Berdusco broke the school record for the 50-yard freestyle with a 24.56 while leading off the relay. They also broke the school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.46 and finished in ninth place.
