Republican women will meet Oct. 4

BRADENTON -- The Women of Manatee County Republican Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Bradenton Country Club, 4646 Ninth Ave. W.

A social precedes the noon lunch meeting.

Invited speaker is Janene Witham, executive director of the Manatee Players. She will discuss the role of the arts in the local economy.

Lunch is $17 and a reservation is required by noon Wednesday before the meeting

Junior League Legacy of Valor lunch set Nov. 7

MANATEE -- The Junior League of Manatee County Legacy of Valor Celebration Luncheon for Veterans will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 7 at Dolphin Aviation, 8191 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Teen Driver Challenge will offer hands-on training

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is accepting registrations for the next Teen Driver Challenge, a free defensive driving and vehicle control program for young drivers.

The program includes classroom instruction and training behind-the-wheel.

There are two sessions of the Teen Driver Challenge: Oct. 25-26 or Nov. 1-2. Classroom instruction is held 5-9 p.m. Friday at The Landings in October or Laurel Nokomis School in November. Hands-on training is held 9-5p.m. Saturday at the driving range, 6664 West Price Blvd., next to North Port High School.
