Sports briefs | Bayshore volleyball team sweeps past Palmetto

MANATEE -- Joy Norman laced 11 kills, and Kat Bradshaw and Sierra Booth served up 10 points as the Bayshore volleyball team defeated visiting Palmetto 25-23, 25-19, 25-20. The Tigers (1-8) got 15 kills from Danielle Deterding and five digs from Sarah Diaz. The Bruins improved to 6-3.

ELSEWHERE -- Host Southeast downed St. Petersburg Lakewood 25-13, 25-10, 25-13 in Class 5A-District 10 play. Emma Bartges and Casey Harman each had eight kills for the Seminoles (2-8, 1-1). Lacey Sanchez added 18 assists. ... Host Saint Stephen's improved to 5-9 with a 25-10, 25-20, 25-18 triumph over Booker. Lauren Biach had five aces, seven digs and six kills for the Falcons. Bryce Liebel added 11 digs and 16 assists.

Basketball: Knicks, Nets to share '15 All-Star Game

NEW YORK -- Two sparkling arenas. One All-Star city. The NBA is bringing its All-Star weekend back to New York in 2015, and the Knicks and Nets are putting aside a strengthening rivalry on the court to share it.

Barclays Center in Brooklyn will host the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night and the skills events, highlighted by the slam dunk contest, on Saturday before the 64th All-Star game goes to Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Feb. 15.

ELSEWHERE -- Former Detroit star Rasheed Wallace rejoined the Pistons as a player development coach. The team also added Henry Bibby and Maz Trakh as assistant coaches. ... Diana Taurasi has tied Lisa Leslie with a record eighth appearance on the All-WNBA team.
