Political conundrums mark health care, gun violence

September 25, 2013

Help me understand.

I don't understand why there is such an emphasis on creating jobs but little emphasis on the quality of jobs. Slaves had jobs and worked for nothing and it seems big business supports this idea.

I don't understand why health care is a profit-making business. Other countries have private health care systems, but they are non-profit. Nonprofits can pay salaries, build infrastructure and perform all the functions of profit-making businesses, but their management is not able to walk away with hundreds of millions of health-care dollars as our governor has done.

I don't understand how retirees can be far right conservatives and yet be willing to accept benefits from Social Security and Medicare. These programs are pure socialism.

Lastly, I don't understand how people, who have never lived in a country with gun controls, can be sure that the answer to gun violence is more guns. A 5-year-old child with a gun can kill people. Supporting the availability of machine guns, concealed weapons in malls and schools, would make the NRA just another terrorist organization in most counties, but in the US many of its members consider themselves both patriotic and Christian.

Do you have answers?
