A man was arrested after he made a prank call to a national hotline saying he had abducted and assaulted a 9-year-old girl, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Broderick Furlow, 26, was arrested Friday and charged with filing a false report to an abuse hotline.

Detectives began working the case Friday after Furlow allegedly called the hotline and said he abducted and assaulted the girl and dumped her body, but that she may still be alive.

Furlow did not give his name or the location he was calling from, detectives said, but they were able to track the phone number and made contact with him.

Furlow was interviewed by detectives and he admitted the call was a prank, according to the sheriff's office.

He was released from Manatee County jail Saturday after posting $1,500 bond, online records show.
