Local roundup | IMG Academy racks up fourth victory

Bo Scarbrough scored five touchdowns, four on the ground, to lead the IMG Academy football team to a 47-23 victory on the road over Ocala Trinity Catholic on Friday night.

Scarbrough, who is bound for Alabama, rushed for 155 yards and caught a pass for a touchdown for the Ascenders, who improved to 4-0.

IMG quarterback Michael O'Connor completed 11 of 26 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. He threw one interception.

Jack Wegher ran for 45 yards for IMG.

Trinity Catholic (3-1) scored the first two points of the game on a safety but did not score again until IMG led 33-2.

CARDINAL MOONEY 28, AVON PARK 0 -- Demardre Patterson and Sean Morris each scored a pair of touchdowns, and the area's stingiest defense pitched a shutout as the visiting Cougars ran their record to 3-0.

Morris, a cornerback, scooped a Red Devils fumble and raced 42 yards for the first score. Later, he hauled in a 50-yard pass from quarterback Reese Vita to make it 14-0 Cardinal Mooney.

Patterson took over from there, scoring on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and a 17-yard jaunt in the fourth quarter. Avon Park, which committed six turnovers, fell to 0-4.

ST. PETERSBURG CANTERBURY 37, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 0 -- The host Crusaders (4-0) wasted very little time jumping on the Panthers (3-1) in a Class 2A-District 6 game.

They put together 48 minutes of football to quickly dispose of their opponent.

Head coach Bill Jones said, "We started strong and finished strong, this was the first time that we had beaten them in a couple of years."

After several posessions in the first quarter, the Crusader finally got on board as Josh Belton threw a 26-yard strike to Sammy Faucette to put them up 7-0. Later O'Shon Allen scored on a beautiful 62 yard jaunt as he leaped over a defender to elevate the Crusaders to a 14-0 lead.

Faucette would later score in the second quarter twice on runs of 45 and 17 yards as the Crusader built a 28-0 lead at the break.

In the third quarter the crusader would score on a safety as BC snapped the ball out of the end zone to make it 30-0.

Faucette who had been a force on both sides of the ball scored his fourth touchdown on the night as Belton hit him with a a 9 yard touchdown pass to make it 37-0.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 42, CITRUS PARK CHRISTIAN 0 -- The host Thunder earned their first victory with a 42-0 shutout behind David Grain's two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.

Grain filled in at quarterback, while Jason Fineberg ran for more than 100 yards and added a touchdown.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF NAPLES 45, SAINT STEPHEN'S 6 -- The Falcons fell to 1-3 at Palma Sola Park in their Gulf Atlantic Conference opener.
