A month out of prison, convicted rapist charged in Manatee with having sex with teen girl

September 19, 2013

MANATEE -- A man released from prison last month after doing time for raping a teenage girl, was arrested Wednesday and charged with raping another girl, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's office.

Bed Xavier, 21, was released from prison Aug. 18, after serving eight months in prison. Last year he plead no contest to unrelated charges of felony battery for having sex with a 14-year-old girl and carrying a concealed weapon and was sentenced to a little more than 13 months in prison, with credit for time served, according to court and prison records. He is currently on probation for the gun charge, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's deputies began investigating Xavier anew after a 15-year-girl told authorities Tuesday that she twice had had sex with Xavier, according to a news release.

Deputies set up a sting operation, and later that day Xavier in text messages monitored by the deputies made "several admissions" to having a sex with the girl.

"During that messaging the suspect also solicited the victim to engage in additional sex acts. He then arranged the time and the place for that rendezvous, also via text messaging," the report states.

On Wednesday, deputies arrested Xavier when he went to that location.

During a search of Xavier's home, deputies seized several electronic devices as evidence, according to the report.

Xavier is currently being held without bond at the Manatee County jail. He faces two counts of lewd and lascivious battery, one count use of a computer to solicit a child to commit a sex act and one count of traveling to solicit a child to commit a sex act.
