MANATEE -- An 18-year-old Bradenton man was in the Manatee County jail Tuesday on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and discharging a firearm in public.

Davion M. Rivers fired a single gunshot in the area of the 1000 block of 20th Street East at 2:16 p.m. Monday, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.

After police were notified of the incident, Rivers and two other individuals, including a juvenile, were found along 11th Avenue East between 19th Street Court East and 21st Street East, the report states.

The witness from the gunshot location was driven to where Rivers was being detained and identified him as the man she saw with a gun, according to the report.

Rivers told police he had the gun for his protection but did not fire it, according to the report.

But one of the other adults with Rivers said Rivers fired the gun in the air to intimidate two unknown individuals who "jumped" him, the report states.

The juvenile told police that he never heard a gunshot and never saw a gun.

Rivers is being held on a $2,000 bond, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.
