Sheriff: Heightened security at Sarasota school after bomb threat

September 17, 2013

SARASOTA -- Security is heightened at Fruitville Elementary School, as authorities investigate a bomb threat made against a person who works at the Sarasota school, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

In a news release, the sheriff's office said a woman in Jacksonville made the threat to a man in Texas and "involved a person who works at the school and their private vehicle, not the school itself."

Monday night, deputies and Sarasota school district security officials searched the buildings and grounds at Fruitville Elementary, 601 Honore Ave., and found nothing suspicious.

Investigators also determined that the woman who reportedly made the threat was at her home in Jacksonville.

"While we continue to investigate the threatening message, the heightened law enforcement presence at the school today is out of an abundance of caution for the safety and security of students and faculty," the news release states.
